Before the actual joust began, they played games to see who would fight whom. They had to put their lance through hoops stationary and then the referee tossed hoops into the air and they had to catch them on their lance while at full gallop. They had an obsticle course where they had to drive their spear into a bail of hay, then circle around a post, come back and grab the spear and with it, bust a balloon. After the games, they were given swards and arm plates and they had sward fights. Eventually, they got to the actual joust where there were two pairs and they charged at each other with lances and tried to unseat the other Knight. It was fun to watch and some good riding.
